Meet Ahastery Lorenzo

While being an entrepreneur can be extremely difficult. It also has its benefits. We go through emotions from choosing products, producing clients, balancing daily activities, etc. Being an entrepreneur gives you independence, flexibility, and an introduction to other creatives. Let us begin by introducing you to Ahastery Lorenzo.

What's Your Name?

Ahastery Lorenzo

Before, jumping into your creative life, how was your personal life growing up?

Growing up in the Dominican Republic until the age of 9 3/4, I was able to experience a lot of freedom. Walking to school with my friends, going outside to play games with my friends every day, walking to my grandmother's house, talking everyone's ear off, and just being a social butterfly, with no restrictions whatsoever. Growing up in the US though was a bit different. I couldn't dance in the house because we first lived at my aunt's and she didn't allow secular music to be played, and then we moved into a second-floor apartment and the downstairs neighbors complained about my dancing... I couldn't go outside to play because my brothers no longer had an interest in playing with me, I had no friends and my grandmother was afraid about me playing outside by myself. My life got turned upside down. Right side up and upside down again multiple times, to the point where I became socially inept.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Bani, Dominican Republic, lived there until age 9 3/4, moved to Tucker, GA in 2003, and have lived here since.

Tell us something nobody knows about you.

I enjoy DIY projects. I like making my own envelopes and boxes as well as finding ways to recycle materials I already own.

What do you do when you're not being creative?

I watch a lot of Korean Dramas, they've been my guilty-pleasure for about three years now.

We know pursuing your passion isn't easy, but overall how has been an entrepreneur help you to transition your life?

It's been hard, to be honest. You don't become an entrepreneur overnight, you have to put in the work, even when you feel lazy because if you don't do it, no one else is going to do it for you.

What fears did you have to overcome to become the person you are today?

The fear of failure. If I'm honest it's still the major thing I deal with even today - on really bad days I really question the steps I've taken and if it's actually been worth it.

What or who is your inspirational source?

My inspiration comes from God and my desire to fulfill the purpose He has placed inside of me.

Did you have anybody in your corner to help get your career started?

Yes, I did, I have a couple of people who are cheering me on and are patiently waiting for me to truly launch myself.

We'd love to hear more about your business.

My business is called About a Girl. It's a name that came to my mind back in 2015... back then it was all about getting me out of my cocoon and becoming a butterfly - it failed. But over the last two years I have been working closely alongside God to make this what He wants it to be and so now About a Girl is a vessel through which people will get to see behind the closed door of the Christian life - things are not perfect, happy-go-lucky and stress-free, there are hardships, everyday worries, but in the midst of all that there's the Peace that only Jesus can bring. I am About a Girl, About a Girl is me and I'm not perfect, but I'm not aiming to be and I hope that whoever sees me and reads the books I'll release also learns to accept themselves as who they are and live a life of purpose.
