African American jazz singer Esther Jones (Betty Boop) began her popular career as a child entertainer.

Esther Mae Phillips was born " Esther Mae Jones" by her parents Gertrude and William Jones. Little Esther was an entertainer who lived in Chicago, Illinois. She was a trained singer, dancer, and acrobat who performed at Harlem night clubs. As a versatile blues singer who sung pop, country, and mainly soul r&b; "Baby Esther," Boop lived in a colored neighborhood in Chicago with both parents. Esther began her career in the 1920s when she won first prize at a Charleston contest in Chicago. Then performed in a Chicago revue,
" Opera Versus Charleston" due to Russian American Lou Bolton, and traveled throughout the states in Europe.
As a popular Entertainer at "Harlem Cotton Club," Baby Esther became known for her revealing dress, beautiful curvy figure, and signature vocals. " Boo-Boo Boo," "What Da-Da," and " Doo Doo Doo." Helen Kane then began to steal Esther's style and began using her vocals "boops" in her songs.
